THE HOME SHRINE
The Home Shrine is usually a direct reflection of the Dedicant and mine is no exception. I actually keep and use two, one inside and one outdoors. I admit, though, that the outdoor one gets more use.
In my back yard I set up an altar of stone in a small circle. Behind the shrine is a staff set into the ground with antlers to represent the World Tree. On the altar I set a wooden bowl for water to represent the Sacred Well, and quartz set with a candle for the Flame.
Each morning after I jog I go back to the Shrine, fill the bowl with river water and light the candle. I thank the Powers for the gift of the day, and then I go about my normal day.
At night I set at my computer desk that has been dedicated as my indoor shrine. I keep this one solely for honoring the Sacred Three. I created a Bile from Sculpy clay with a tea light set in the top for the Sacred Flame. I use another wooden bowl for the Well.
I honor of the Noble Spirits I keep small stone fetishes and one large Chinese lion carved in wood. My ancestors are represented by my grandfather’s rosary. The Shining Ones are represented in part by the addition of three goddess statues that I sculpted.
Usually I use the Shrine to bless items and offerings for High Holy Days and I use it as a place for nightly meditation and divination when necessary.
I find that I use the outdoor shrine far more often and so I have made plans for a more complex setup that can be used not only in the winter months but it may also be large enough for large groups to use for their own worship.
Long ago I dedicated by land in the service of the gods, and I would like to do them the honor they deserve. Someday perhaps I will be able to create (with the help of my Grove mates) a permanent stone Nemeton.
